Andrew WK

Its no secret I love Andrew WK. The guy just makes me want to party, but these two videos almost made me piss my pants laughing. What an A grade dude.

Laneway Festival, what a day!

First up we went and did a couple of hours volunteering before venturing off to grab a $3 pie (at the insistance of M.Newman) and a beer at the Station Hotel. We also stopped at Dimmeys for some antics.

We went to the VIP bar for a bit and convinced a security guard we were Mumford and sons, and that our name stemmed from mum driving us to gigs in an old ford. The actual Mumford and Sons guys thought this was pretty funny when we told them. First band we saw was Whitley. this guy has seriously come of age. I remember seeing him support other bands and he was always good. But at Laneway and Falls with his new album he has really banged it up a notch.

Next up was Frightened Rabbit. I am obviously a fan of them, but they blew me away. Only a small crowd had gathered due to them playing the same time as Mumford, Holy shit they were awesome.

We then had a beer and watched The XX from the comfort of the VIP in between chatting the guys from Mumford and Sons.

We then went and saw They Very Best who were the hit of the festival. Playing tracks form MIA to Architecture in Helsinki with accompanying African rapping and singing, they killed it. Everyone was rocking out and I was struggling to stop Marty looking at jiggling boobs.

We got to meet those guys later too and they were really nice.

We went backstage for Black Lips and almost got kicked out due to a couple of excited fans. The were pretty good but not the best band of the day. I can see why people like them though. We got to meet them later and they were super rad dudes. Have fun in Japan boys!

We went back to the bar and caught the end of Dirty Three that sounded awesome and I would really like to see better some time. We then went to Florence and the Machine. I'm not a huge fan but her voice was amazing. I was holding out for some songs I knew, but they didn't come until after it was time to head to NASA.

These guys are insane. An awesome DJ set (while we drank their rider), followed by them inviting Marty and I on stage for the last two songs (including Gifted).

The also had these crazy Mars Attacks costumes and I was lucky enough to try one on.

All in all, probably the best festival I have been to. The new location is really good and I had a great time. Thanks to Katie for the tickets! She even got to meet her one true love - Dan Kelly.

Laneway Festival and First EVER Blog

Well, I'm off to Laneway Festival tomorrow. Newman and I are doing our usual "volunteer work" beforehand which means an early start but a day of fun. Looking forward to seeing Frightened Rabbit, but disappointed Echo and the Bunnymen pulled out. Will get some photo's and might write a bit of a review tomorrow.
